Dr. Moore, Principal Welcome to Nina Otero Community School!

As your principal at Nina, I hope that you will join me this year in empowering our students to lead, own, and transform their learning, school, and community. Nina will be increasing opportunities for student, parent, and community engagement throughout the year. We know that the more our community adults are involved in the school-lives of our students, the farther students reach, and the harder they strive.

The staff and leadership team are eager and excited to get to work! The release of PARCC data and our school grade highlight the hard road ahead. It will take all of us to move the needle for our children. I was recently reading about an educational organization who aspires to the following Zulu precept: "If the future doesn't come toward you, you have to go fetch it." We are morally obligated to fetch a better future for every one of our students and ensure that we have done our part to send them out into the world equipped as thinkers, readers, advocates, and stewards. The quality of our society is reflected by our schools-- we MUST do better by our children. We have to continue to improve our work and demonstrate this improvement in "fetching" better outcomes for our students-- increased participation and engagement in school events, increased student ownership in peer conflict, relational problem solving, and relationship building, and student self-knowledge regarding self-developed academic goals, progress, and performance. Our instructional team cannot do it alone. We need our parents and community as active participants in the process.

Our leadership team is committed to providing your child with rigorous and engaging learning opportunities balanced by teaching and modeling effort, kindness, stewardship, compassion, and integrity. We hope you will join us as partners this year! I look forward to an exciting year! Dr. Angelia Moore
